The City of La Pine, population 1,653, is a small city that has a very rural feel. There is only one traffic signal in La Pine to give you a feel for the community. The city is surrounded by pine trees and gives the area a real feel of living in the woods. La Pine generally gets the most snow of all the cities in Central Oregon. It is about 30 miles to Bend from La Pine with Sunriver being about halfway between the two.
For recreation, Newberry Crater is nearby with cross country skiing and snowmobiling options in the winter, and hiking, mountain biking, and fishing options in summer. The Little Deschutes river is nearby for river activities, and there is the Quail Run Golf Course for local golfers.
