Prineville, Oregon, with a population of 9,253 as of 2010, is located about 30 miles northwest of Bend in Crook County. Due in part to not being located on highway 97, and its distance from Bend, Prineville feels more secluded and rural then many of the other cities in the area. The weather in Prineville is typically warmer than in Bend.
There is a lot of outdoor recreation in the area including two golf courses at Meadow Lake Golf Course and Prineville Golf Club, the Prineville Reservoir for fishing and watersports, the Crooked River for fly fishing, and the Ochoco Mountains for mountain biking, hiking, camping, and hunting. The are also a few OHV vehicle areas nearby for riding motorcycles and atvs.
Real estate prices are generally lower here than in other areas of Central Oregon. There are good deals on vacant land if you are looking for acreage. Facebook and Google recently purchased large parcels of land to build data centers. There are also a few new housing developments in the Prineville Oregon area if you are looking for new homes, and many cute older homes looking for some renovations in the downtown area.
