Saturday September 28 is the 2013 Sisters Fresh Hop Festival in Sisters, Oregon. For those of you not familiar with what a fresh hop festival is, or the brewing process of beer; hops are one of the main ingredients that provide the flavor of the beer. The state of Oregon is the second largest hop producer in the US and it is this time of year when all the hops for the season are harvested. The hops are then dried and packaged and sold to breweries all over the world. As a celebration many local breweries have started producing small quantities of beer using the fresh hops as opposed to dried hops.
During the Sisters Fresh Hop Festival seventeen different Oregon breweries will be offering up samples of their fresh hop creations. The festival takes place from 12 noon to 8pm at Village Green Park in Sisters and admission is free. To taste the beers you will need to purchase a tasting glass for $5 and then each 4oz taster pour is $1. In addition to the beer there will be food carts and live music.
